Everything Happening at Jim’s Gym This March
A Busy Month at Jim’s Gym: Classes, Clubs and Community
Jim’s Gym continues to grow, and there is loads to come in March. It’s shaping up to be another brilliant month inside the community.
Last week saw the ever-popular Book Club, with a great discussion and a new read lined up for next month – The Western Wind by Samantha Harvey.
We also had Craft Club, where members created some beautiful stitched fabric landscapes. The creativity that comes out of these sessions never fails to amaze me, and it’s a lovely reminder that Jim’s Gym is about far more than exercise alone.
And now there’s even more happening.
Zumba Arrives at Jim’s Gym
The big news this week is the launch of our brand new Zumba class, starting Monday 9th March at 4pm.
This has been something members have been asking for, so it feels hugely exciting to finally add it to the timetable. Led by the brilliant Rowena Wakefield, it’s a Latin-inspired dance workout full of music, energy and movement.
It’s another way for members to stay active from home while enjoying themselves at the same time.
A Full Week of Movement
Monday mornings start with three different cardio sessions to get the week moving. Come for one session, two or like many members, complete the hat-trick of sessions!!
At 8am there’s the easy(ish) cardio session, followed by a tougher workout at 8.30am, and then a shorter, fun session at 9am to round things off.
At 10am, the pace slows down beautifully with Tai Chi, offering a chance to focus on balance, coordination and calm movement.
Tuesday morning brings Turn Up the Strength at 9.15am, a workout focused on building strength in a way that supports everyday life.
Wednesday is all about strength building. We begin with a Resistance Band workout at 8am, followed by a heavier dumbbell session at 8.30am for those who want to push things a little further. Later in the day there’s Yoga with the wonderful Virginia, which many members say leaves them feeling both relaxed and refreshed.
Thursday mornings begin with Seated Fitness, making sure there is always an accessible option available.
Later that day at 1.30pm we have the Movement Improvement session, which this week focuses on sit-to-stands – one of the most important movements for leg strength, balance and independence.
At 9.30am on Thursday, Aimie leads her excellent Pilates session, helping members build core strength and stability.
Then we round off the week with Finish Strong Friday, a mix of strength, cardio and core work designed to leave you feeling energised going into the weekend.
Think Peloton, but without the bike and designed specifically for people over 55 who want to stay active from home and feel ace doing it.
More Than Just Exercise
Alongside the workouts, the Jim’s Gym community continues to thrive.
Still to come this month is the Art Club on 19th March at 1.30pm, where members explore their creative side in a relaxed and welcoming session.
And on 26th March, we have the monthly nutrition talk with registered dietitian Ian Thomas, offering practical advice around food, energy and long-term health.
These sessions bring a different dimension to the community and are a big part of what makes Jim’s Gym feel like something special.
