NEW: Introducing The Friday Craft Club at Jim’s Gym
The Friday Craft Club: 6 Weeks of Creativity and Connection Before Christmas
There’s something special about sitting down with a cup of tea, a few simple materials, and letting your hands make something from scratch.
Starting this November, we’re adding a brand-new creative series to Jim’s Gym — The Friday Craft Club, a 6-week hobby-craft programme running right up to Christmas, led by the wonderful Bea, an artist and educator from Halifax with a real gift for helping people discover (or rediscover) their creative side.
What Is The Friday Craft Club?
The Friday Craft Club is a relaxed weekly online session where you can enjoy an hour of creative making from home. You don’t need fancy materials or any prior experience — Bea will guide you through each step with warmth, encouragement, and plenty of laughter.
You’ll use everyday items like buttons, old magazines, yarn, and jam jars to create something beautiful each week. Everything is designed to be easy to adapt, so you can use what you already have or add your own flair.
Each week has a different project, from button books and magazine bowls to festive painted stones and yarn-wrapped jars — all with simple seasonal twists to make them feel extra special.
When and Where
📅 Starts: Friday 7th November 2025
🕦 Time: 11:00am–12:00pm
💻 Where: Online via Zoom
💸 Cost: Included in Jim’s Gym membership
All you need to bring is your enthusiasm (and maybe a brew). Bea will share tips and examples as you go, helping everyone create something unique — and have a laugh along the way.
Every session will be recorded, so if you can’t make it live, you can enjoy it later at your own pace. The sessions are also perfect to pull out on a rainy afternoon when you fancy something calming and creative — or even to share a fun project with the grandkids when they visit.
Meet Bea – Artist, Educator & Craft Enthusiast
Hi, I’m Bea — a Halifax-based artist and educator with a lifelong love of crafting. In my early 20s, I studied at Leeds University of Art and worked briefly as a costume designer before moving into a career in the NHS.
Becoming a grandma gave me the final nudge to return to art full-time, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I recently completed a Master’s in Creative Practice with distinction and was awarded funding to design and run craft workshops for local charities — everything from crochet and collage to mixed-media art.
The feedback was so positive that it confirmed what I already knew: sharing creativity with others brings me joy. These days, I work from a studio in a converted mill, surrounded by inspiring makers and ideas. I’m thrilled to bring that same creative energy to Jim’s Gym — no experience (or glitter!) required.
Why We’re Adding The Friday Craft Club
At Jim’s Gym, we’ve always believed that staying well isn’t just about movement — it’s about community, creativity, and keeping your mind active too. Crafting is a wonderful way to relax, reduce stress, and feel part of something uplifting as we head into winter.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about enjoying the process, connecting with others, and giving yourself a weekly hour to slow down and make something just for the fun of it.
