What’s New in the Healthy Habits Club? Art, Books, and Brilliant Extras
At Jim’s Gym, exercise is where we start - but it’s not where we stop.
The goal has always been bigger than movement alone. It’s about helping you feel good, stay independent, and enjoy life as you age.
That’s why I’m always looking for ways to add more value to membership, not through gimmicks, but by building in real features that support healthy ageing and help people stay connected and happier.
The Healthy Habits Club evolved from that idea.
It began as a simple Thursday check-in and myth-busting session, helping people navigate healthy ageing with more confidence. A space to set goals, share tips, and talk about motivation and mindset. However, it has grown into something much bigger and more engaging.
What’s Inside the Healthy Habits Club?
Today, the Healthy Habits Club includes:
Movement Improvement Sessions to help you feel more confident navigating daily life
Catch-ups and health-related chats to help you stay on track
Monthly Nutrition Talks with NHS Dietitian Ian Thomas
A growing Book Club, now featuring guest author Q&As
And now – a brand new monthly Art Club led by artist John Skelcher
These sessions are included with membership and designed to support your wellbeing in every sense – not just physical health.
Introducing the Jim’s Gym Art Club
Launching Wednesday 24th July at 1.30 PM
Our next Healthy Habits feature brings creativity into the mix.
The Jim’s Gym Art Club will meet monthly on the third Thursday, led by professional artist and teacher John Skelcher. Each session is 60 minutes long and designed to be relaxed, welcoming, and open to everyone, from complete beginners to experienced artists.
You won’t need anything fancy. For the first class, just a pencil and paper will do. Future sessions will include a simple materials list, shared in the WhatsApp hub at least one week in advance.
Each class follows a clear format:
ARTIST FOCUS
A short intro about an artist, exhibition, material, or theme.ART EXERCISE
A hands-on demonstration led by John, using simple techniques and materials. The first session is a beginner drawing workshop.REVIEW & TARGET
A chance to reflect, share your progress (optional), and set a creative challenge for the month ahead.
As John puts it:
“The Art Club is where members can join a group making, creating, and enjoying their art with guidance and support from a qualified instructor. You’ll learn a variety of techniques and strategies across different media – drawing, painting, and much more.”
Whether you’re brand new to art or looking to reconnect with a forgotten hobby, the Art Club is a great way to slow down, try something different, and feel part of something creative.
It’s not about being “good at art” – it’s about enjoying the process and connecting with others while you do.
